Chroma filter sets are renowned for their exceptional optical quality and consistency, making them a top choice among professional astronomers and advanced astrophotographers worldwide. Manufactured in the USA with strict quality control, each filter features ultra-hard, durable coatings that deliver outstanding transmission, precise bandpass performance, and minimal halo or reflection.
Designed to meet the demands of modern large-format sensors, Chroma filters provide sharp, high-contrast images across the entire field of view. Available in LRGB and narrowband sets (H-alpha, OIII, SII), they allow you to capture faint deep-sky details with remarkable clarity and true-to-life color balance.
Whether you are building a new imaging system or upgrading your current setup, Chroma filters are an investment in premium performance and reliability.
Chroma LRGB Filter Specifications
Chroma LRGB filter sets are available in a wide range of sizes to match different imaging systems, from compact filter wheels to large-format cameras. Each filter is parfocal within the set, polished to 1/4 wave, and coated for high transmission and excellent blocking outside the passband.
Sizes: Available in unmounted 31mm, 36mm, 50mm round, as well as 50×50mm, 65×65mm, and other square/rectangular formats for larger sensors.
Bandpasses:
Luminance (L): Broad bandpass optimized for maximum transmission while blocking IR/UV light.
Red (R): Central wavelength ~600–700nm, steep cutoffs for accurate color balance.
Green (G): Central wavelength ~500–600nm, high peak transmission with excellent separation from blue and red.
Blue (B): Central wavelength ~400–500nm, sharp cutoff to minimize overlap.
Thickness: Standard 3mm (other thicknesses available upon request).
Transmission: >95% peak, with OD5 blocking outside the passband.
These filters are optimized for today’s high-resolution CCD and CMOS sensors, ensuring minimal reflections, consistent color calibration, and maximum light throughput.
Chroma Narrowband Filters – Hα, SII, OIII
Chroma narrowband filters are engineered to isolate the key emission lines of deep-sky nebulae with unmatched precision and contrast. Manufactured with ultra-hard coatings for durability and consistency, they provide high transmission in the desired band while blocking unwanted light pollution and continuum background.
• Available Bandwidths:
• 3nm – Maximum contrast, ideal for imaging under heavy light pollution or moonlight.
• 5nm – Excellent balance of signal strength and contrast; widely used for most imaging systems.
• 8nm – Higher throughput, suitable for narrowband imaging with fast optical systems (f/2–f/3). Contact us for pre-order.
• Central Wavelengths (CWL):
• Hα: 656.3nm
• SII: 672.4nm
• OIII: 500.7nm
• Transmission: >90% peak within bandpass; OD5 blocking outside the band.
• Thickness: Standard 3mm; other thicknesses available upon request.
Chroma narrowband filters ensure consistent parfocality across the set, minimal halos or reflections, and excellent performance with large-format CCD/CMOS sensors. They are the preferred choice for professional observatories and advanced astrophotographers seeking maximum detail in emission nebulae imaging.
